Game Review: Kitty Powers Matchmaker

I saw this was on sale and the video for it seemed like too much fun to pass up. Kitty Powers has players taking on the role of a matchmaker as they try to match singles up with a desirable match by comparing their astrological sign, hobbies, hair/eye color preferences as well as various personality traits. They then get to pick a location and then go on a date.

The date is comprised of 4 question phases, peppered with a variety of quick little activities which are mainly focused on testing the player’s memory. During the question phases a slot machine appears and the player can select from one of 3 potential topics to discuss, such as careers, hobbies, preferred hair and the weather. The player has to navigate away from conversations that may not go over well, if the character has a bad haircut for example, but playing it too safe can mean not learning that the couple is a poor match, and trust me… no one actually wants to talk about the weather.

The small activities are thematic to the task at hand, players play a memory game to match ideas to tell a story about their past, choose from a lineup what their server looks like, calculate the tip etc.. At later levels players need to navigate through the quandary that is who pays for dinner, and can potentially meet up with exes at future match ups. The number and way the games are introduced keeps things fresh and at fancier restaurants the simpler games increase in difficulty.2016-02-22_00013

The game has a currency which can be purchased through IAP, this allows the player to change their client’s appearance, cheat during dates and unlock new features. In the Steam version of the game, which is what I played, the amount of money earned is enough to progress in the game but not in excess that cheating and using the hair salon is a common practice.2016-02-22_00026

I found it to be a rather refreshing take on casual gameplay and loved the witty humor. The game is presented in a way that it is easy to sink your teeth into, so its hard to put down and also very easy to pick up and play where you left off. 2016-02-22_000272016-02-22_00004
